CMC Dorm ID System | August 2024
System designed for all PSHS-CMC dorm's needs. This project is initiated by the efforts of ALAY.
Motivation of the Project
Initially, the idea was to maximize the use of our school IDs. At present, their primary purpose is identification, despite already having QR codes. There was an opportunity to make better use of this feature by creating a system that could log all sorts of student information in dormitories, laboratories, and other student services by digitizing their information and using the IDs as a way to quickly gather those information or log new information. So, by the time we reached Grade 12, when the ALAY Organization was still in its early stages, we proposed this idea as one of our projects. However, due to concerns about handling confidential information, especially in the clinic, the administration was hesitant to entrust students with developing a system of such scale. As a result, we narrowed our focus to one part of the original concept: dormitory logging. This was a challenge that dormers faced every day and one that we could realistically address. Having been a dormer myself since Grade 10, I regularly witnessed the long lines that formed every morning at 7:00 a.m. when students were required to leave the dormitories for class. Seeing this daily inconvenience, we recognized an opportunity to use technology to make the process faster and more efficient. By implementing a QR code-based logging system, we aimed to reduce waiting times, streamline the logging process, and improve an experience that every dormitory resident could easily relate to.
